Description
Engaging and challenging decimal review and practice is possible with Solve & Draw Task Cards! Students will problem-solve and apply all decimal operations with these word problems. Solve & Draw activities put a new spin on color-by-number or mystery drawings and channel your students' love for doodling and drawing. These decimal word problem task cards are designed to provide practice of reading math directions and breaking down multi-step word problems. These are intended to be a challenge or review activity.
How Solve & Draw Task Cards Work:
Students read the word problem, determine the steps they need to take, and solve the decimal calculations. Then, there are two related math problems, often requiring critical thinking and making connections, that will prompt them to add specific objects to the drawing. To keep them guessing, each problem may have one correct drawing prompt, two, or none.
Three drawings are included, each with 8 associated task cards (ninja from the correct drawing is on each numbered task card). Each task card contains three related math problems.
Task cards are included in both color and black-and-white. An answer sheet with workspace is provided and may be copied on to the back of the drawing or separately. You may also choose to print copies of the task cards in black-and-white, especially for students needing support, and allowing students to complete the work on the task cards.
Drawing prompts require a student to use multiple skills:
• Decimal calculations (all operations)
• Reading word problems carefully and determining the steps and calculations needed to solve
• Making math connections
• Independently using math vocabulary
• Reading directions accurately

I loved the idea of this assignment. Students loved the creativity of the cat ninja and the drawing aspect. However the questions and multiple choice/drawing tasks didn't match up. For instance in #8 it asks how many hours did Chris work. The drawing tasks says will he earn $55 for 10 hours of work. The other choice gives a hypothetical sitatution. The question/answer choices are not wrong, but my student answered the main question, and it had nothing to do with the answer choices. Almost like a question in a question. Same with number 2. It asks how much money does he have left over. My student figured it out, but the answer choices pertain to total money spent. Love the idea, but my students were a little frustrated when they answered the main question, but they had to do something different for the answer choices. Maybe just take off the main question?
