Fraction Word Problem Color by Answer Activity — Creative Solve & Draw Math
(49 ratings)$3.75
Add to cartDescription
Make math practice more engaging with this Math Color by Answer Solve & Draw Activity—a creative twist on the traditional color‑by‑number worksheet! This resource blends meaningful math practice with student choice, creativity, and artistic expression.
Students solve the math problems to determine colors, but instead of stopping there, they are invited to add to the drawing in their own way and personal style. The math provides the structure, while students bring the picture to life—resulting in unique final products every time.
⭐ Why This Is Not a Typical Color‑by‑Number
Traditional color‑by‑number activities end with identical pictures. This resource goes further by:
- ✅ Allowing students to add their own details, patterns, and designs
- ✅ Encouraging creativity alongside accuracy
- ✅ Giving students ownership of their finished work
- ✅ Producing one‑of‑a‑kind artwork, not copy‑paste results
Students aren’t just coloring—they’re creating.

My students really enjoyed using these - also made for lots of accountability. I could walk around and say, "Oooh, I don't think I should see a starfish in your drawing, you need to go back and double check your work!" without even having evaluated their math work.

I hope your students love these! Please download the file again when you get the chance. I've made big updates, including adding a Level 1 version that isn't quite so challenging so you can differentiate for your students! Thanks!

I love the idea of this product, and the questions are definitely challenging - which I like. I also like the idea of adding to the drawing. Kids would love that. However, I have some issues with this product. I always work the problems myself before giving them to my students. As I worked through this product, I noticed there were many mistakes - either on the question or answer key. The questions weren't always clear, and some of the items that went along with each task didn't really relate to the original question. I just feel it needs a good editing, then I will be very excited to use it with my students!

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback - I have gone through and corrected errors and clarified some of the word problems. I've also created a Level 1 version of the task cards that do have the drawing prompt directly related to the word problem. The original task cards can be used as a Level 2 for students who need more of a challenge; I require my students to complete the work for the initial word problem even if they could technically add to the drawing without that step. This version works well for students who are typically early finishers, while the newer version will work better for students who need to focus in on the original problem. Thanks again for your helpful feedback. I hope the updates make this resource a better fit for your students!

Thank you! Really happy to hear it engaged your students. Solve & Draw resources are inspired by a creative group of my struggling mathematicians who needed something a little different to keep them hooked. :)
