Make beginning German accessible with a bundle of comprehensible input lessons and short stories. Repeated target structures, reading support, and follow-up comprehension activities give German 1 learners meaningful practice while providing ready-to-use lessons and sub-plan options.
Each story and lesson has a set of target structures that are used again and again in the story. The target structures for the lessons are:
Frank hat Hunger: ein Brot, Er hat Hunger, Er sucht, es nur
Der unsichtbare Mann: verliebt, sieht ihn nicht, er kauft, ist kleiner als
Das perfekte Geschenk: das perfekte Geschenk, möchte ihr _______machen, in die Tasche
Der böse Koch: ein schlechter Koch, Er gibt, zu viel Salz, Sie sind
Each very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. Each video is around 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.
Here’s what you’ll get in these German Comprehensible Input Lessons:
• Links to the videos both with and without the text
• A printable pdf version of the stories
• Comprehension question worksheets
• "Who said it?" worksheets
• Story retell worksheets
• Answer keys
