Description

Turn French family, numbers, and descriptions review into an interactive challenge with this no-prep, self-grading French family escape room! Designed for French 1, A1, or Novice Low/Mid learners, the game combines family vocabulary, ages, numbers in the tens and hundreds, descriptions of people, birthday gifts, and être and avoir.

Students help plan a birthday party for Claudio, a vampire who is 126 years old. To complete the mission, they work through sequential reading, listening, vocabulary, grammar, and writing challenges.

Students will practice:

  • French family vocabulary
  • Reading and labeling a family tree
  • Numbers in the tens and hundreds
  • Ages in French
  • Understanding descriptions of people
  • Birthday-gift vocabulary
  • Using avoir and être in descriptions
  • Reading, listening, and short written responses

The escape-game tasks include:

  • Reading and vocabulary: Label the family tree using information from a French reading
  • Listening and writing: Complete a form with details from an audio description of the vampire
  • Listening and vocabulary: Choose the correct birthday gift based on the audio
  • Grammar: Supply the missing form of avoir or être
  • Reading and numbers: Read a French number and write the digits for the vampire’s age

The game is hosted in Genially. Students do not need to create an account; they simply type their name at the beginning. Share the game link, and they can start.

The activity is self-grading. Students must successfully complete each task before moving to the next challenge. At the end, they reach a congratulations screen that they can screenshot and submit as proof of completion.
