Make holiday culture memorable with a La Navidad escape room for Spanish class. In this no-prep digital escape game, students investigate Spanish Christmas traditions by reading clues, visiting websites, watching videos, and finding codes to unlock each challenge.
The game interface and directions are in English; many sources students use to solve the puzzles are in Spanish. It is best suited to Spanish 2 and above. Students may work independently or in teams.
Digital escape games are a fun way to start a unit, or to review at the end of a unit. They can also be used to learn about a cultural or historical event. This game will have your students reading carefully and paying attention to the smallest details in order to complete the challenge and unlock the locks.
This item includes:
Your students will enjoy learning without even realizing that they are learning! The challenging game format will get them excited about finding the code to unlock each lock - and the format of the clues for each lock will have them paying close attention - there's no way to solve the puzzles without being 100% focused!
Topics in this game include:
Prep is very easy - you just need to share the website URL with your students. You may want to test the site before you use it, just to make sure nothing is blocked by your district. As some of the clues can be challenging to unlock, you may choose to help your students with the trickier ones. With the teacher guide, you will have the answer key - so you can help guide students towards the correct answer by giving them hints, or if you have limited time, you can adjust the game by reducing the number of locks they need to unlock - just give them the answer(s) to help the activity fit your time constraints.

I would like for the information to be updated as the websites are. The recipe is completely incorrect. Also, please list some clues the teacher could use.

The link to the tamale recipe has been updated and should work properly now if you refresh. I do check the links frequently but sometimes things change before I can get to them - if you run into this issue, a quick email to me will let me know that there is a problem and I can generally fix it within an hour or two. As far as clues go, it will depend on your students - the teacher guide does tell you what they are looking for, so you can give students support as needed. Some are more able to figure it out with a little nudge while others may need more guidance.

this looks wonderful! However, i have been through it and not sure but i think i will have to add extra clues. i have done break outs in my class but not digital ones...i am not sure how students are supposed to come up with some of the answers. for example the one code where the answer is chocolate. will they just have to get that from reading or would i have already taught that? it just seems like they are guessing with the clue saying it is 9 letters. please advise! any help would be great!!

They will need to read the clues very carefully - then visit the linked site and use the clue to figure out the answer. You should not have to teach them anything before the game is played, all of the answers can be found on the links from the game. Some of them are tricky, so you may end up giving a little hint to the students if they get stuck, depending upon your students. Usually the first one is the most difficult for them, but once they find one key they start thinking more like detectives and the rest get easier for them.
