Within two days of starting our spooky stories based on one of the slides in the digital photo writing prompts, my own 4th and 5th graders CHOSE to continue their stories for homework. By day 2, one of my 5th graders was starting on page 9 of his story. These visual writing prompts coupled with a theme song really do inspire better writing.

About the Editable Halloween Bookmarks

These editable bookmarks are great time-fillers, perfect for a relaxing social-emotional learning activity, and can even be used on a bulletin board or as name tags on a desk. This resource is a Google Slides document with 20 pages, designed with 4 different bookmarks per page. The first 10 slides include the text "Happy Halloween" and are ready to print, the next 10 pages can be customized with student names, while the last 3 pages include writing prompts for students to respond to. Editing and printing these bookmarks is very easy. Just double-click where it says name and type in a student's name. Then select your preferred font and color, and stretch the Word Art box to your desired size.

About the Writing Prompts:

The Google slideshow includes 5 different Halloween-themed images. Each slide includes one image, a story title, and a small word bank that can be edited or added to. When displayed in slideshow mode, each slide includes a musical soundtrack that should play automatically. Also included is a set of 4 different printable Halloween word bank bookmarks. Each bookmark includes 20 vivid words to jumpstart the storytelling process. These bookmarks can be used in conjunction with the slides or separately.
