Create a Rockstar Roll & Write Grammatically Correct Build a Sentence Activity
Free (7)
If your upper-elementary students struggle to write complete sentences, you’ll love this bundle of Grammar Police Traffic Patrol: Run-On Sentences activity. After swearing in your newest Patrol Officers, your students will review 30 different traffic incidents. Their mission? To catch and stop speeding run-on sentences. Once they’ve cornered their culprits, your students will issue a citation and repair the damage done by fixing each of the run-ons. It's great for grammar, writing, and revision practice!
The Mission?
Read to find sentence run-ons in each of the 30 short texts
10 Level 1 Traffic Incidents has 1 run-on per incident card
10 Level 2 Traffic Incidents have 3 run-ons per incident card
10 Level 3 Traffic Incidents have an unknown number (0-4) run-ons per card
Differentiate between a complete sentence and a run-on
Identify where two independent clauses collide without proper punctuation
Know how to fix run-ons by installing Stop Signs (periods) or building Merge Lanes (comma + conjunction)
Practice compound sentence building and punctuation rules
Eliminate run-on habits and endless sentences in their independent writing
Here’s what’s included:

In My Own Classroom . . .
My 4th and 5th grade students usually have no problem identifying a statement as either a run-on or complete sentence. They can even fix a run-on given to them. But find a run-on in the context of a text? Way harder! This is the activity that will help them go beyond basics and help students begin to edit their own writing. Soon your students will be writing in complete sentences and fixing their own run-ons.
