When November comes, you'll be thankful for these no-prep, digital Thanksgiving photo writing prompts set to music and printable word bank bookmarks. Each of the 5 prompts include an Autumn or Thanksgiving-themed photo, music, story title, and editable mini word bank to help spark story ideas. Use the 4 printable word bank bookmarks to support struggling students. This resource can be used both in-person or in a virtual setting.
Each slide includes a beautiful photo that is paired with an audio soundtrack to fully immerse students, a story title, and an editable mini-word bank. When displayed in slideshow mode, each slide includes a musical soundtrack that will play automatically. This resource includes printable word-bank bookmarks to allow for differentiation and support for learners of all ages. Each bookmark includes 20 vivid words to jumpstart the storytelling process. These bookmarks can be used in conjunction with the slides or separately and are the perfect activity for a substitute teacher on the days leading up to or after Thanksgiving break. Simply print and cut apart. Whether you're looking to improve writing skills or simply encourage gratitude and reflection, our writing prompts are sure to do the trick.
You can either select one visual writing prompt to display on your interactive TV or other screen, or push this slideshow out to students via Google Classroom and let each student select which image they want to write about. Be sure to turn your volume up! In my own classroom, I ask students to analyze the image and song silently first before asking them to brainstorm story ideas with a peer. I guide my students to describe what they might see, hear, smell, or touch. Then we add in emotions we might feel, thoughts we'd have, and things we might say. To help support or challenge students, print and cut apart several copies of the word bank bookmarks. Ask students to think critically about what words might make sense in the story they want to tell and to include as many words from their list as possible/feasible. I promise your students will have a ton of fun while still being challenged to tell a great story.
