Color Scavenger Hunt – Color Recognition Activity
Turn color recognition into an active, hands-on learning game with this printable Color Scavenger Hunt.
Children search for hidden color cards, identify each color and tick it off on the checklist. The resource then extends learning with drawing, comparing, recording and color-vocabulary activities.
This resource includes 48 hunt cards in two levels of challenge:
24 labeled color cards support younger learners and children who benefit from seeing the color name alongside the visual.
24 color-only challenge cards remove the written clue, encouraging children to recall and name each color independently.
Both US and UK editions are included, with localized spelling throughout, including Color/Colour, Gray/Grey, labeled/labelled and favorite/favourite.

The checklist includes 24 colors ranging from familiar basic colors to expanded color vocabulary such as teal, turquoise, navy, lime green, olive green, beige, cream, gold, silver, coral, peach, mint and maroon.
Colors included
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Brown, Black, White, Gray/Grey, Teal, Turquoise, Navy, Lime Green, Olive Green, Beige, Cream, Gold, Silver, Coral, Peach, Mint and Maroon.
Built-in differentiation
Use the labeled cards when introducing color names and building vocabulary.
Then move to the color-only cards for a greater challenge, where children identify each color without a written cue. The second set mirrors the same 24 colors, making it easy to differentiate without needing a separate activity.
Extend the learning
The included Color Learning Extension encourages children to look more closely at the colors they find by considering:
light, medium or dark shades; similar colors; where the color was found; drawing an item in that color; and comparing which colors were easiest, hardest, most alike or most different.
Ways to use this resource
Use it for:
color recognition • preschool learning • kindergarten activities • math or early-learning centers • homeschool • vocabulary practice • matching • memory games • small groups • intervention • independent practice • indoor scavenger hunts
The cards can also be paired as a labeled-to-unlabeled matching activity, giving you another use from the same resource.
