Community Helpers Scavenger Hunt – Jobs & Occupations Activity
Turn community-helper vocabulary into an active, hands-on learning game with this printable Community Helpers Scavenger Hunt.
Children search for hidden community helper cards, identify each profession and tick it off on their checklist.
The activity then extends learning by encouraging children to think about what each helper does, where they work, the tools they may use and how they help people in the community.
This resource includes 48 hunt cards in two challenge levels:
24 labeled/labelled Community Helper Cards support children by pairing each illustration with the profession name.
24 picture-only challenge cards remove the written label, encouraging children to identify each community helper independently.

US Edition
Both UK and US editions are included, with localized spelling where needed. The UK recording sheet uses favourite, while the US edition uses favorite.
24 Community Helpers Included
Teacher, Doctor, Nurse, Dentist, Firefighter, Police Officer, Paramedic, Vet, Farmer, Chef, Baker, Librarian, Mechanic, Plumber, Electrician, Builder, Gardener, Hairdresser, Bus Driver, Train Driver, Pilot, Postal Worker, Delivery Driver and Cleaner.
Two Levels of Challenge
Start with the labeled/labelled cards for supported profession recognition and vocabulary practice.
Then move to the picture-only cards, where children identify the community helper without relying on the written profession name.
This makes it easy to adapt the same activity for different ages, confidence levels and learning needs.
Extend the Learning
The included Community Helpers Learning Extension asks children to explore:
What does this helper do?
Where might they work?
What tool might they use?
How do they help people?
Can you draw the helper at work or something they use?
The Think & Talk section also encourages children to compare jobs, discuss helpers who work with animals or keep people safe, and think about which community helper they would like to learn more about.
The recording sheet provides space for children to draw and name four things they found during the hunt.
