Shape Scavenger Hunt – 2D & 3D Shape Recognition Activity

Turn shape recognition into an active learning game with this printable Shape Scavenger Hunt.

Children can search for hidden shape cards, identify each shape, tick it off on the checklist and extend their learning through drawing, discussion and shape-property activities.

This resource includes two complete sets of shape cards to provide built-in differentiation:

24 labelled/labeled shape cards give younger learners or children who need additional support the shape name alongside the visual.

24 shape-only challenge cards remove the written prompt so children must recognise, recall and name each shape independently.

Both UK and US editions are included, with appropriate mathematical terminology and spelling differences.

The Shape Learning Extension encourages children to examine properties such as straight sides, curved sides, corners, flat faces, curved surfaces, edges and vertices.

Ways to use this resource

Use the cards for a traditional scavenger hunt, maths centres, small-group work, morning activities, homeschool learning, intervention, shape review, matching activities, vocabulary practice or informal assessment.

The labelled/labeled and picture-only sets can also be paired together for a shape matching or memory game.

Print, cut and hide the cards around the classroom, learning space, home or outdoor area. Children search for each card and tick the matching shape on their checklist.
