I love anything in Google Forms as it allows me to easily gather data. It would be 5 stars if there was a quick video or some teaching examples before the questions. Overall, these are great for review, easy to use and love not having to grade by hand!

On the addition and subtraction portion, #4, it says estimate. If you estimate each item to the 100s place and then add you get 1700. If you add everything first and the estimate to the closest 100s you get 1800. To me 1700 would be correct. There are not clear directions on what to do so many students are getting it wrong because when taught to estimate you estimate the addends and then get the total.
Reply from Marvel Math
Hi Brittany, I just looked at problem #4 again. The problem asks students to find the "best estimate" of the number of visitors to the museum. The best estimate is the closest estimate, which is found by rounding to the tens place. A good way to teach this concept is to have students round all of the numbers in that problem to the tens place and find the sum, then do the same by rounding numbers to the hundreds place and finding the sum. Then have students compare the sum of the actual numbers to both estimates. This is a very critical part of teaching estimation. Students should have a fundamental understanding that the larger the place you are rounding to, the less accurate the estimate is. In this case, rounding to the hundreds place is going to give you an answer that is farther from the actual answer and thus not the best estimate. When asked to find the "best estimate" the problem is asking students to find the estimate that is closest to the actual sum of the numbers. It is designed to prepare students for similar standardized test questions, especially those seen on previous STAAR tests. Incorrect answers by students help us find student misconceptions so that we can address them. Please feel free to e-mail me with further questions. :) Melissa melissa@marvelmath.com
