Description

Start the year with two getting-to-know-you activities that feel appropriate for secondary students and give you information you can actually use.

Students begin with a quick All About Me page covering interests, learning preferences, and attitudes toward reading, writing, and discussion. They then write an informal letter of introduction in their own voice. The letter also gives you a natural, low-stakes baseline writing sample without making the first day feel like a test.

This resource includes:
• 1-page teacher guide with a 40–45 minute lesson flow
• All About Me student handout
• Letter of Introduction prompt with student choice and a clear privacy reminder
• Full lined writing page for the letter
• Optional senior English prompt
• Print-ready PDF
• Editable Word version

The two activities are intentionally different. The All About Me page is quick and low-pressure; the letter gives students more room to tell you what they want you to know. Sharing can remain completely optional.

Designed for grades 9–12 secondary ELA. No special prep is required: print and go, or use the editable Word file to add your own teacher name or make small adjustments for your classes.
