Mendelian Genetics – Christmas Color-by-Code Activity
Looking for a high-engagement, no-prep activity to help your Biology students review Mendelian genetics right before winter break? This Genetics Color-by-Code practice activity is the perfect blend of content mastery and seasonal fun. Students practice key genetics skills while completing a festive coloring page—ideal for intro to genetics, Punnett square practice, sub plans, review days, or a calming activity during the last week before break.
Students complete 10 genetics problems that reinforce essential concepts, including:
After solving each problem, students match their answer to the color key and color the corresponding section of the gingerbread design. This activity encourages self-checking and keeps students engaged with hands-on practice. Three coloring-page options support differentiation and embed student choice without sacrificing content, and answer keys are included for quick grading.

“I have several color by number activities I use in Biology but this may be my favorite because there are 3 versions to color. The questions/content are the same but not everyone is coloring the same picture so it gives some variety for me to display and to keep everyone doing their own work.”
