Periodic Table Element Poster Project and Gallery Walk
Looking for a way to engage your middle or high school students to discover the periodic table of elements and become the experts without having the anxieties of a multi-paragraph paper or oral presentation? (or the anxiety of having to grade all that!) This chemistry or general science project is what you’ve been looking for to expand your students knowledge on key facts and data about different elements of the period table. Create student ownership and exploration as student’s pick an element from the periodic table and become the expert! First, they will research their element and complete the element brag sheet. Next, your science explorers will take that information and create a colorful, neat informational poster. After reviewing the posters, give each one a number and display them on the walls around your space and students participate in a gallery walk, reviewing each students poster and pulling out information about the elements using the gallery walk reflection packet! This low prep project is the perfect addition to your classroom!
This multi-day project can easily be completed as individuals or partners. It also lends itself to natural chunking and teach check-ins for students who benefit from chunking materials into manageable steps.
