Recipe Conversions Haunted House Color by Code | Halloween Math/Cooking Activity

Looking for a practice activity that also incorporates a festive brain break without taking a lot of prep time? Want a Halloween math or culinary activity that is actually connected to your curriculum? Make a little more spooky this October with this engaging Recipe Conversions Haunted House Color by Code Activity! Designed for middle school and high school Math and Family Consumer Science students in mind, this practice activity gives students repeated opportunities to practice essential conversions with fractions and measurements while creating a fun haunted house scene!

Students are given to recipes and 5 conversion question for each one. Students find their answer on the color key, and then use that color to shade the corresponding question number on their selected haunted house. With 4 different haunted house coloring options, students can choose their favorite design while practicing important content.

The activity comfortably combines content review, active recall, visual representation, and repeated practice in a format that feels more like a Halloween activity than traditional review. Perfect for Halloween week, October review, science bell ringers, theory room work, independent work, or a fun festive content practice activity!

Why Teachers Love It

  • Low-Prep: Print and go—no complicated setup required.
  • Meaningful Practice: Students repeatedly retrieve and apply skills for converting measurements in the kitchen- such as doubling, tripling and splitting in half!
  • Visual Learning: Students connect their answers to a visual haunted house representation, giving them another way to interact with the content.
  • Halloween-Themed: A fun October activity that brings seasonal engagement into your science classroom without sacrificing academic practice.
  • Flexible: Use it for independent practice, review, early finishers, bell work, theory centers, or a Halloween lesson.
  • Built in student choice: Includes 4 haunted house coloring options so students can select the scene they want to complete.
  • Low prep: Just print and go!
