Description

Looking for FREE grocery shopping worksheets that build practical grocery store math, budgeting, consumer math, and money management skills? This free grocery shopping worksheet gives students realistic practice using an online grocery store page to find items and prices, follow a grocery list, calculate the total cost of groceries, stay within a budget, and make smart purchasing decisions.

In this Backyard Cookout grocery shopping activity, students use a realistic BrightMart grocery store page to shop for seven items for a family cookout. Prices are not provided on the worksheet—students must locate each item on the shopping page, find the correct price, record it, and calculate their total.

Then students subtract their purchases from a $30 grocery budget to determine how much money remains.

But the shopping doesn't stop there! Students return to the grocery store page, choose one additional item they can afford, record its price, and calculate their new remaining balance.

This extra step encourages students to think about what they can afford before making another purchase—an important real-world budgeting and independent living skill.

REAL-WORLD GROCERY STORE MATH

Rather than simply giving students a list of prices to add, this activity asks them to find the information they need first.

Students move between the grocery shopping page and worksheet much like they would use a store website, shopping app, grocery flyer, or grocery list when planning a real purchase.

After calculating their total, students must decide what else they can afford without exceeding their budget.

That additional shopping challenge makes this more than a basic money addition worksheet. Students practice locating information, reading prices, adding and subtracting money, budgeting, and making informed spending decisions—all within a familiar grocery shopping situation.

Students may use a calculator, allowing the focus to remain on practical grocery shopping and money management skills rather than computation alone.
