Description

I've created a video which shows how this Task Card Activity is used and why it's so simple yet engaging for your students. It can be found here

This 25 Chemistry Task Card resource is unique. It can be utilized in a clue gathering, puzzle solving, highly active and engaging activity and/or as an alternative to worksheet review for High School Chemistry.

This is a portion of my Chemistry Task Cards and Review Activity, please clickHERE to access the full version.

This activity is directly associated with my Chemistry Unit - Atoms, Compound Naming and Chemical ReactionsClick HERE for a preview.

1) Typical task card review.

- 15 of the 25 Task Cards are provided in the below sample

- For typical review, you can simply distribute the Task Cards to your class for individual, group or whole class review

- The cue cards can be projected on the board for whole class review

- The cards work well as cue cards, test review, etc.

- A student worksheet as well as teacher answer key are provided

2) Task card review game - lots of fun!

- Students perform a scavenger hunt type activity in small groups

- The groups have to match their answers to certain words which spell out a quote

- Once the group has completed each Task Card and put together the quote, they are the winner

- A really exciting an engaging activity which gets your students out of their seats and moving around answering questions

- Great for Review

Topics include:

- naming and formula writing.

- writing and predicting chemical equations.

- types of reactions.

- word equations.

- balancing equations.

- conservation of mass.

- acids and bases.

- periodic table properties

- ions

- atoms

The Product includes the following NGSS:

  • HS-PS1-1 - Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
  • HS-PS1-2 - Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties.
  • HS-PS1-3 - Plan and conduct an investigation to gather evidence to compare the structure of substances at the bulk scale to infer the strength of electrical forces between particles.
  • HS-PS1-4 - Develop a model to illustrate that the release or absorption of energy from a chemical reaction system depends upon the changes in total bond energy.
  • HS-PS1-5 - Apply scientific principles and evidence to provide an explanation about the effects of changing the temperature or concentration of the reacting particles on the rate at which a reaction occurs.

These NGSS standards involve developing models, planning investigations, and constructing explanations related to topics covered in the task cards like periodic trends, chemical bonding, and reaction rates - key concepts addressed in a high school chemistry course.
