Description

Ecology Case Study "The Decline of Pollinators"

This resource provides an engaging look at how the decline of pollinators is impacting ecosystems, biodiversity, and the global food supply. Students will explore how habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and disease have led to major decreases in bee and butterfly populations, and what this means for plants, agriculture, and humans.

Through this real-world case study, students will build scientific literacy and deepen their understanding of how human actions influence biodiversity, ecosystem balance, and food security. They’ll examine cause-and-effect relationships between pollinators and plants while learning about conservation strategies to protect these essential species.

This case study serves as an excellent introductory activity for units on ecology, ecosystems, or environmental science. It can also be used as a reading comprehension passage, discussion starter, or standalone lesson to help students analyze, interpret, and apply scientific concepts related to sustainability, interdependence, and human impact on the environment.
