Description

Tectonic Plates - Middle School Earth Science - This 34-slide PowerPoint lesson on Plate Tectonics begins by introducing Earth's layers and Earth's crust in particular. It then outlines the lithosphere before reviewing continental drift, thermal convection, tectonic plates, plate boundaries, and hotspots. The lesson package concludes by checking students' understanding.

The lesson bundle includes the lesson (student and teacher versions of the presentation), an auto-graded Exit Ticket, a separate quiz, TEN videos, and a student lesson handout as a document. The lesson contains diagrams, examples, and explanations.

This lesson is specifically made for the middle school science classroom. It includes language that is appropriate and content that is easy to understand. There are also many images and videos that make learning easier and more enjoyable.

In order, the lesson covers:

  • Earth's Layers
  • Earth's Crust
  • The Lithosphere
  • Continental Drift
  • Thermal Convection
  • Earth's Plates
  • How Plate Tectonics Works
  • Plate Boundaries
  • Hotspots

Included in the lesson package is:

  • The teacher version of the presentation
  • The student version of the presentation
  • 10 videos embedded into the presentation
  • An auto-graded Exit Ticket and a separate quiz with an answer key
  • Student lesson handout

-------------------------------------------------

  • This lesson includes both Office and Google formats for ALL resources. The presentation is in PowerPoint and Google Slides while all documents contain Word and Google Doc versions.
  • Your resource is perfect for distance learning and integrates seamlessly with Google Classroom as I've included a link that will automatically create a copy of the resources and put them directly into your Google Drive with one click.
  • Purchase --> Open --> Click --> Assign to your students

Having both options allows you to use either without worrying about formatting issues as all the work has already been done for you. It safeguards you in case your department or school decides to go Google 100% and allows you as well as your students to access everything no matter where you are or what kind of equipment is being used.

The student version of the presentation contains multiple blanks that need to be filled in throughout the lesson. These blanks are conveniently underlined and bolded on the teacher copy. I have found this to be the most effective means of keeping my students engaged and active without having them write everything out. This also leaves more time for discussion and activities.

This file is in .zip format. All that means is you download the lesson package as one file (.zip) and then double-click it to extract it. No additional software is needed, your PC or Mac will do all the work. Please view the Preview File to obtain a sense of my style, see how my PowerPoint lesson is structured and evaluate my work. If you are not 100% happy with what you purchase, I will refund your entire purchase price via PayPal. To access the video(s), begin the slideshow and click the image of the video player. A new window will open up taking you directly to the video.

This lesson is also found within my Middle School Earth Science Unit which includes the following lessons:

  1. Caves and How They Form
  2. Climate Change
  3. Cycling of Matter
