Description

These three water cycle data graphing activities will help your students understand how precipitation varies by season and location, how temperature affects evaporation, condensation, and cloud formation, and how rainfall, soil type, and infiltration affect runoff and river flow while building strong graphing and data analysis skills. This bundle gives teachers an easy, NO PREP way to have students work with real-world style Earth science datasets to explore Precipitation Around the World, Evaporation, Condensation & Cloud Formation, and Runoff, Infiltration & Water Movement.

There are 3 Graphing Labs Included:

  1. Precipitation Around the World Investigation
  2. Evaporation, Condensation & Cloud Formation Investigation
  3. Runoff, Infiltration & Water Movement Investigation

Students analyze real-world style water cycle and weather datasets related to monthly precipitation patterns, annual precipitation differences between major cities, temperature and precipitation relationships, evaporation over time, condensation at different temperatures, water vapor capacity, river flow after rainfall, infiltration in different soil types, and the relationship between rainfall amount and runoff. They then create a variety of graph types from data tables before using their graphs to identify patterns, analyze trends, and explain how water moves through Earth’s systems.

Each activity includes a complete answer key with the required graphs and is very easy to differentiate for different ability levels.

Students use provided real-world data tables to:

  • Create multiple types of graphs (line graphs, bar graphs, and scatter plots)
  • Identify patterns in precipitation, evaporation, condensation, runoff, infiltration, and river flow
  • Compare how temperature affects evaporation, condensation, and water vapor capacity
  • Analyze how soil type affects water absorption and runoff
  • Explore how rainfall amount influences runoff and water movement
  • Use evidence from graphs to answer discussion questions about the water cycle

Each activity moves students from reading data → graphing data → interpreting patterns → explaining scientific processes.

Topics Students Explore

  • Precipitation patterns in different parts of the world
  • Seasonal changes in rainfall
  • Comparing annual precipitation in major cities
  • How temperature and precipitation relate
  • Evaporation over time
  • Condensation at different temperatures
  • How temperature affects water vapor capacity
  • Cloud and fog formation
  • Runoff and infiltration
  • How soil type affects water absorption
  • How rainfall amount affects runoff
  • Real-world applications of the water cycle and water movement

This graphing bundle is also included inside my Middle School Science Graphing & Data Analysis Mega Bundle at a significant discount. The bundle contains graphing activities for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science topics.
