Description

French & Indian War (Seven Years War) in New York - NYS SS Framework 4.3c This instructional resource is a comprehensive, inquiry-based mini‑unit aligned to the New York State Social Studies Framework, Grade 4, Standard 4.3c, focusing on the French and Indian War in New York State. The lessons center on the people, places, and relationships involved in the conflict, with particular attention to major battles fought in New York, the strategic importance of forts and waterways, and the alliances between Native American nations and the English and French.
Through map analysis, informational texts, political cartoons, and structured discussion, students investigate the participants in the French and Indian War, the goals of each group, and the relationships that shaped the conflict. Emphasis is placed on understanding how geography, military strategy, and alliances influenced events in colonial New York and why this war was significant to the region’s history. Students also examine how the outcome of the war altered relationships among the British, Native American groups, and the colonies, setting the stage for future developments in the Colonial and Revolutionary Period.
