I found this later into our unit to use as a supplement, but plan to use it all next year! Great layout of lessons with plans, map examples, and maps for students to fill out. I used the blank map with cut out pieces to send home with students for review, and they loved piecing together the names with locations. They also easily made flashcards with the vocabulary/pictures. I plan to use the entire unit next year as it covers the standards and is very student-friendly! The only thing I found difficult was very small font on some documents.

This is a substantive resource that is a great companion for any lesson about the Great Lakes. Not only is there information about the history of the Erie Canal, but also about how the locks in the canal work. It is a cross-curricular resource that combines history and engineering concepts. Overall, a great find!
