Help students build French reading comprehension with 100 authentic French signs collected in France. Students use context clues to identify each sign’s purpose, tone, audience, and most important information while learning about French culture. With texts ranging from simple notices to advertisements and more detailed informational or historical signs, this collection provides flexible reading practice for a variety of proficiency levels.
The signs cover a wide variety of topics and purposes, including advertisements, public notices, informational signs, historical displays, and everyday messages. Some signs include pictures or other visual clues, while others ask students to rely more heavily on their vocabulary and understanding of context.
Students consider:
• What is the purpose of the sign?
• Who is the intended audience?
• What tone does the sign communicate?
• What information is most important?
• Which words, images, and context clues help reveal the meaning?
WAYS TO USE THESE FRENCH SIGNS
• Class warm-ups or bell ringers
• French reading comprehension practice
• Interpretive-reading activities
• Partner or small-group discussions
• Cultural comparisons
• Informal assessment
• Extension work
• Differentiated reading practice
The range of difficulty makes it easy to select signs that fit different learners. Beginning students can work with shorter signs and visual support, while more advanced students can interpret longer texts, unfamiliar vocabulary, tone, and cultural context.
These authentic French reading activities give students meaningful contact with real-world language while encouraging them to read, infer, discuss, and learn about everyday life in France.

“I have been using these as part of my slides to start class. I use one of these to sneak in reading and then talking about it. Love having easy access to so many.”

For Claude Monet French Reading Comprehension Activities Impressionism
My students were familiar with Claude Monet's work but didn't know much about his life, so this was useful info not in our textbook. I appreciated having the differentiated versions.

For French Reflexive Verbs | Grammar Lesson, Readings & Worksheets
Great way to use history to review reflexive verbs while not just focusing on daily routine - which let's be honest, is boring. Who talks about their daily routine on a regular basis? No one.

For Les Animaux Reading Comprehension: 10 A2 French Animal Passages
I left this as a packet for level 2 students in addition to other work when I was out for a few days due to surgery. I offered a few bonus points if they selected 2-3 readings to keep them busy when everything else was turned in. They loved learning about animals and many students who didn't have time while I was out chose to complete the entire packet on their own time for fun once I was back.

Thank you for letting me know about the missing link - I've updated the image and it should be working now. You may have to F5/refresh to get the link to show properly (it covers the body of the statue).
