Add to cartThis beginning French short story provides engaging French reading comprehension practice through comprehensible input. Designed for novice learners, the ready-to-use resource includes a printable story, two animated video versions, comprehension activities, a story-retell worksheet, and an answer key. Repeated target structures and visual support help students understand the French while saving you preparation time.
Amadou wants to find the perfect gift for his mother’s birthday. Unfortunately, his gift ideas do not go as planned. Can he find the right present and show his mother how much he loves her, or will she be disappointed?
In Le Cadeau Parfait, students encounter three target structures multiple times:
• le cadeau parfait — the perfect gift
• il veut lui donner — he wants to give it to him/her
• dans sa poche — in his/her pocket
The repeated language and visual storytelling make this French short story accessible to beginning and novice French students. Use the story as written, pause the video to discuss and storyask, or ask students to add details and create a parallel story.
Students can interact with the story in several ways:
• Read the printable PDF version
• Watch the animated video with French text
• Watch the illustration-only video and retell the story
• Answer reading-comprehension questions
• Complete the “Who Said It?” activity
• Reconstruct and retell the story using the included worksheet
With novice-low and novice-mid learners, you can present the story as written. With novice-high students, add details, create a parallel version, or use the illustrations as prompts for a more independent retelling. At higher levels, students can retell the story in the past tense.
Here’s what you’ll receive:
• Links to animated video versions with and without text
• Printable PDF version of Le Cadeau Parfait
• Comprehension-question worksheet
• “Who Said It?” worksheet
• Story-retell worksheet
• Answer key
This low-prep French reading comprehension resource gives you an engaging story, repeated language structures, visual support, and meaningful follow-up activities in one convenient lesson.

For Claude Monet French Reading Comprehension Activities Impressionism
My students were familiar with Claude Monet's work but didn't know much about his life, so this was useful info not in our textbook. I appreciated having the differentiated versions.

Great way to use history to review reflexive verbs while not just focusing on daily routine - which let's be honest, is boring. Who talks about their daily routine on a regular basis? No one.

For Les Animaux Reading Comprehension: 10 A2 French Animal Passages
I left this as a packet for level 2 students in addition to other work when I was out for a few days due to surgery. I offered a few bonus points if they selected 2-3 readings to keep them busy when everything else was turned in. They loved learning about animals and many students who didn't have time while I was out chose to complete the entire packet on their own time for fun once I was back.

Thank you for letting me know about the missing link - I've updated the image and it should be working now. You may have to F5/refresh to get the link to show properly (it covers the body of the statue).
