Description

Bring the Carnaval de Québec / Quebec Winter Carnival into your classroom with this no-prep digital escape game for high school French. Students read cultural information, follow clues, and unlock a series of locks while learning about the festival. Separate French and English versions, a complete teacher guide, and an answer key make the game flexible, engaging, and easy to assign.

Simply share the game website with your students and let the challenge begin. Students can work individually or in teams as they read each clue carefully, visit the Carnaval website, and locate the information needed to discover the correct codes.

Two language versions are included:

  • In the French version, the clue pages and responses are in French.
  • In the English version, the clue pages and responses are in English.
  • The information website is available in both French and English, allowing you to select the reading language that best fits your students.

Use the game to introduce a Carnaval de Québec unit, review at the end of a unit, explore Francophone culture, provide meaningful reading practice, or leave engaging digital sub work.

This resource includes:

  • Access to two game websites
  • French-language version
  • English-language version
  • Complete teacher guide
  • Answer key
  • Support for adjusting or shortening the challenge

Students will learn about:

  • Bonhomme Carnaval
  • Winter clothing
  • Practical festival information
  • The history of Carnaval de Québec
  • Activities at the Quebec Winter Carnival

The escape-game format encourages close reading, teamwork, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Students must examine each clue carefully to find the information required to unlock the locks.

Some clues are intentionally challenging. Use the teacher guide and answer key to provide hints, reveal selected codes, or reduce the number of required locks when you need a shorter or more supported activity.

Technical note: Test the websites before class to confirm that your district permits access to external Google Sites. If external Google Sites are blocked, contact me at least 24 hours before using the game so I can help arrange a version published within your district.
