Description

Build your collection of French comprehensible input stories with Le Pantalon Moche, a ready-to-teach, single-story lesson for beginning French learners. This 90-minute resource combines a printable story, two animated video options, repeated target structures, comprehension activities, story-retelling practice, and an answer key.

Marc loves his red pants, but the other children laugh whenever he wears them. He tries different pants, but they still laugh. Could the problem be something other than his questionable fashion choices?

This beginning French comprehensible input story repeatedly uses four target structures:

  • il s’habille
  • moche
  • ne comprend pas
  • en solde

The simple, repetitive language makes the story especially appropriate for novice-low and novice-mid learners.

This French lesson includes:

  • Printable PDF version of the story
  • Link to an animated video with written text
  • Link to an illustration-only video for oral retelling
  • Comprehension-question worksheet
  • “Who Said It?” worksheet
  • Story-retell worksheet
  • Answer key

Choose the format that best fits your class. Tell the story with the printable text, play the animated version for listening and reading comprehension, or pause the video to discuss details and storyask with students.

The main video is just over five minutes and gives students pause time to read the text. The second version contains the illustrations without written text, making it useful for sequencing, oral narration, and story retells.

Differentiate the lesson by proficiency level:

  • Novice low and novice mid: Tell or watch the story as written.
  • Novice high: Add details, ask extension questions, or have students write a parallel story.
  • More advanced learners: Ask students to retell the story in the past tense.

Use Le Pantalon Moche as a complete 90-minute lesson, a beginning French reading activity, a vocabulary and grammar review, or a springboard for storyasking and student-created stories.

Please note: This is one complete story resource. The download includes links to both video versions; the videos are not embedded in the printable PDF.

“Fun and full of vocabulary and grammar. A great way to review and reinforce these structures and add to a lesson.”
