Description

This French Food comprehensible input lesson that uses target structures in a comprehensible way to teach about a nonfiction topic. The text is simple enough for first semester French. Students will learn about what sorts of things people in France eat as well as seeing how the pronoun "on" is used to talk about what people in general do. The reading is structured so that there are many repetitions of the target structures and sheltered grammar so that it can be easily understood by even beginners.

The target structures are:

  • On mange - one eats, people eat
  • Se prépare - is prepared
  • Est délicieux/délicieuse - is delicious
  • Le dîner, le petit déjeuner, le déjeuner - dinner, breakfast, lunch

This item includes:

  • A 37-slide PowerPoint with repetition of the target vocabulary
  • a text version of the PowerPoint
  • comprehension questions
  • a grammar explanation and exercises for the pronoun “on”
  • a story retell sheet with photos - one for writing, one for oral retell

Teacher reviews

“I loved that this was comprehensible enough for my level 1 students, while providing the opportunity for them to talk about something they love. There are a lot of ways to extend and build upon the activities, which is great if you have a group that's really passionate about the topic!”

“This was a good cultural unit on food! The reading was comprehensible! I was able to stretch this out to use for one and a half class days.”
