Use this short story in French with food to give novice learners repeated, understandable language in a memorable context. Marc a faim is a comprehensible input French story and one-hour lesson featuring printable text, two animated video options, comprehension activities, story-retelling practice, and an answer key.
Marc is a hungry squirrel. His refrigerator is full, but it does not contain his favorite food: baguettes! How will he fill his stomach, and can his friends help him?
This beginner-friendly French food story repeatedly uses four target structures:
The simple, repetitive language is designed for novice-low and novice-mid learners. Teach the story as written, pause the video for discussion or storyasking, or let students watch for comprehension.
You can also adapt the lesson for other proficiency levels:
This French comprehensible input lesson includes:
The main animated story is just over five minutes and includes pauses that give students time to read. The illustration-only version removes the written text, making it useful for oral narration, sequencing, and story retells.
Use this resource as a complete one-hour lesson, a novice French reading activity, a food-vocabulary lesson, or a starting point for storyasking and parallel stories.
Please note: The download includes links to the animated videos. The videos are not embedded in the printable PDF.

For Claude Monet French Reading Comprehension Activities Impressionism
My students were familiar with Claude Monet's work but didn't know much about his life, so this was useful info not in our textbook. I appreciated having the differentiated versions.

For French Reflexive Verbs | Grammar Lesson, Readings & Worksheets
Great way to use history to review reflexive verbs while not just focusing on daily routine - which let's be honest, is boring. Who talks about their daily routine on a regular basis? No one.

For Les Animaux Reading Comprehension: 10 A2 French Animal Passages
I left this as a packet for level 2 students in addition to other work when I was out for a few days due to surgery. I offered a few bonus points if they selected 2-3 readings to keep them busy when everything else was turned in. They loved learning about animals and many students who didn't have time while I was out chose to complete the entire packet on their own time for fun once I was back.

Thank you for letting me know about the missing link - I've updated the image and it should be working now. You may have to F5/refresh to get the link to show properly (it covers the body of the statue).
