Teach beginning French through an engaging Thomas Pesquet space reading about the French astronaut’s Alpha mission and life aboard the International Space Station. This comprehensible input lesson gives first-semester students an accessible nonfiction biography with repeated target structures, a 25-slide PowerPoint, printable reading, comprehension questions, grammar practice, guided retelling, and answer keys.
Students learn about French astronaut Thomas Pesquet and his journey to the International Space Station while receiving repeated, meaningful exposure to useful French structures. The beginning French reading comprehension text is supported by visuals and repetition so novice learners can understand the story without translating every word.
Use the PowerPoint to present the biography as a class, pause to circle the target structures and check comprehension, and then reinforce the reading with printable questions, grammar practice, and guided retelling.

WHY TEACHERS WILL FIND IT USEFUL
This French astronaut lesson works well during a space, biography, science, French culture, or International Space Station unit. It gives students meaningful information to learn through French while giving teachers a complete instructional sequence.
Students can first listen and respond to the visual story, read the printable biography, answer comprehension questions, review regular -er verb forms, and finish with a guided retell. The structured progression helps beginning students demonstrate understanding without requiring unsupported language production.

For Claude Monet French Reading Comprehension Activities Impressionism
My students were familiar with Claude Monet's work but didn't know much about his life, so this was useful info not in our textbook. I appreciated having the differentiated versions.

For French Reflexive Verbs | Grammar Lesson, Readings & Worksheets
Great way to use history to review reflexive verbs while not just focusing on daily routine - which let's be honest, is boring. Who talks about their daily routine on a regular basis? No one.

For Les Animaux Reading Comprehension: 10 A2 French Animal Passages
I left this as a packet for level 2 students in addition to other work when I was out for a few days due to surgery. I offered a few bonus points if they selected 2-3 readings to keep them busy when everything else was turned in. They loved learning about animals and many students who didn't have time while I was out chose to complete the entire packet on their own time for fun once I was back.
