Punctuating Dialogue Hands-On Comma Rules Grammar Practice Activities Grades 3-8
(1 rating)$3.00
Add to cartIn this collaborative, interactive, hands-on grammar activity, students work with partners to master comma rules by physically building dialogue and practicing punctuating it correctly. You can use this resource as a small group guided instruction activity, scoot, or independent assignment, and your young writers will be engaged and learning the whole time. Differentiating for a wide range of student abilities is easy with this resource.
Using this activity with my own 5th graders really helped me see which students were still struggling with the punctuation rules, allowing me to quickly intervene and reteach the skill as needed. My students completed all of the different activities, moving from guided instruction, to partner work, to identifying dialogue in the wild, to finally writing their own lines of dialogue. I recommend using all activities over the course of a full week.
Resource includes:
Teacher Directions
Dialogue Building Pieces (sentences, dialogue tags, quotation marks, commas, periods, and question marks)
Scoot Task Cards
Scoot worksheet
Dialogue in the Wild worksheet
Practice Writing Dialogue worksheet
Scoot Answer Key
