This packet, Bud, Not Buddy (by Christopher Paul Curtis) Novel Fluency Passages, includes 19 fluency passages taken for each of the 19 chapters of this novel. This allows you, as the teacher to easily choose the fluency passage that best suits wherever your class is in the novel at any given time. Each passage page has a table at the bottom that allows a student to record his or her daily progress and keep track of improvement. The word count in this set ranges from 249 – 368. Using fluency passages taken from the novel your students are reading makes it a truly relevant activity that also easily leads to more content discussions. I’ve certainly found this to be true in my own classroom!
