Description

A fun, creative, and engaging way for middle and high school students to demonstrate listening comprehension skills! Bring podcasts into the English classroom with this easy-to-use set of listening guides!

The science fiction podcast, Limetown, is a great addition to any ELA class. Its true crime-style approach to storytelling makes it highly relevant and exciting, while the fictional aspect lends itself to a variety of ELA standards.

Use Limetown to teach...

  • Suspense
  • Media literacy
  • Dystopia
  • ...and more!

This product contains 3 listening guides per episode, designed in a sketch notes style, with 3 levels of scaffolding. Meet the needs of all students with blank, topical, and guided question options! Also included is a teacher sample for Episode 1. As student's answers may vary widely, answer keys are not provided for each guide. Instead, we encourage critical thinking and discussion from students in response to each podcast episode!

This resource allows you to print-and-go with very little prep! Simply identify the level(s) of scaffolding you'd like to use, print the relevant pages, and use with your class! The listening guides will help spark discussion among students and encourage active engagement.

P.S. A tried and true tip from one ELA teacher to another...have students listen to the first episode before revealing that the podcast is fictional. The next day, teach about The War of the Worlds radio broadcast from 1983, and see if students can make the connection. This is a great way to activate historical connections and build news and media literacy skills! We promise that it is a lesson your students will never forget.
