July 15, 2025I use this resource regularly as a fun way for my students to practice reading words in isolation as we practice our phonics skills. The kids always love to play this game. The only thing that would make it better is including phrases or sentences.

So if the last card has a short a sound the card they lay must have a short a sound. If a word starts with ch the next card layed has to have ch somewhere in it. This has really helped students identify parts of words!
