Description

In a small group or literacy centre, students can use the colour-coded sentence parts to practise putting words and ideas together in grammatically correct sentences. This Colourful Semantics-inspired resource provides structured sentence building activities for Grades 1–3.

Students roll a die, use the colour-coded prompts, and write complete sentences. The resource includes Level 1 and optional Level 2 roll-a-sentence pages, allowing you to choose the level that best suits your learners. It also provides varied ways to practice sentence construction, grammar, syntax, and sentence formulation.

What’s included:

✅ Roll a sentence using who, describe, doing, where

✅ Roll a sentence using what, when, how, to who

✅ Write the sentence using who, describe, doing, where

✅ Write the sentence using who, describe, doing, where and what, when, how, to who

✅ Build a sentence cut-and-paste task

✅ Colour the sentence

✅ Unscramble and write the sentence x2

This resource is useful for:

·       practising sentence structure and grammatical accuracy

·       providing hands-on sentence building and writing practice

·       supporting small-group instruction, literacy centres, grammar practice, and intervention

The combination of roll-a-die, cut-and-paste, colouring, writing, and unscrambling activities gives students several ways to work with sentence parts. The colour coding helps make the structure of each sentence more visible while students build and write their own examples.

Use the pages for focused grammar lessons, additional sentence construction practice, or independent and supported literacy work. The PDF digital download is available in both black-and-white and colour, so you can select the format that works best for your classroom.
