Description

These three forces and motion data graphing activities will help your students understand how force, acceleration, friction, and motion relationships work while building strong graphing and data analysis skills. This bundle gives teachers an easy, NO PREP way to have students work with real-world style motion data to explore speed, acceleration, and friction forces.

There are 3 Graphing Labs Included:

  • Speed, Distance & Time Investigation
  • Forces & Acceleration Investigation
  • Friction & Surface Investigation

Students analyze real-world style datasets related to distance, time, speed, force, mass, acceleration, and friction forces. They then create a variety of graph types from data tables before using their graphs to identify patterns, analyze motion relationships, and explain how forces affect the movement of objects.

Each activity includes a complete answer key with the required graphs if you need to differentiate for different ability levels.

How It Works

Students use provided real-world data tables to:

  • Create multiple types of graphs (line graphs, bar graphs, scatter plots, and double line graphs)
  • Identify patterns and relationships in motion data
  • Compare relationships between variables such as force, mass, and acceleration
  • Analyze how surface type influences friction forces
  • Explore how speed, distance, and time are connected
  • Use evidence from graphs to answer discussion questions about motion and forces

Each activity moves students from reading data → graphing data → interpreting patterns → explaining physical science concepts.

Topics Students Explore

  • Distance, speed, and time relationships
  • Motion patterns and rates of change
  • Force and acceleration relationships
  • Newton’s Second Law of Motion
  • Mass and inertia
  • Friction forces and surface roughness
  • Static vs kinetic friction
  • Motion and engineering design
  • Graph interpretation and trend analysis

This graphing bundle is also included inside my Middle School Science Graphing & Data Analysis Mega Bundle at a significant discount. The bundle contains graphing activities for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science topics.
