Description

These three genetics and environment data graphing activities will help your students understand how genetic probability predicts inherited traits, why observed trait ratios vary among samples, and how environmental conditions affect the distribution of expressed traits—all while building strong graphing and data-analysis skills. This bundle gives teachers an easy, NO PREP way to have students work with real-world and scientifically modeled datasets while exploring Inherited Traits, Sampling Variation and Genetic Probability, and Environmental Effects on Trait Expression.

There are 3 Graphing Labs Included:

  1. Predicting Inherited Traits Data Investigation
  2. Sampling Variation and Genetic Probability Data Investigation
  3. Environmental Effects on Trait Expression Data Investigation

Students analyze datasets related to predicted and observed pea-plant traits, cumulative offspring percentages, genetic probability, sampling variation, sample size, mean absolute error, plant growth under different light conditions, and final trait distributions. They create grouped bar graphs, line graphs, scatter plots with lines of best fit, histograms, and comparative graphs before using their results to identify patterns, analyze relationships, and explain how genetic and environmental factors influence trait distributions.

Each activity includes a complete answer key with the required graphs and is very easy to differentiate for different ability levels.

Topics Students Explore

  • Genetics and environmental influences on traits
  • Predicting inherited traits
  • Genotypes and phenotypes
  • Dominant and recessive alleles
  • Punnett squares and genetic crosses
  • Expected and observed offspring ratios
  • Genetic probability and Cumulative trait percentages
  • Sampling variation and the effect of sample size
  • Scatter plots and lines of best fit
  • Environmental effects on trait expression
  • Plant growth under different light conditions
  • Trait distributions and histograms
  • Mean, range, and percentage calculations
  • Genotype–environment interactions
  • Using numerical evidence to explain trait variation

Each activity moves students from reading data → graphing data → interpreting patterns → explaining scientific processes.

This graphing bundle is also included inside my High School Science Graphing & Data Analysis Mega Bundle at a significant discount. The bundle contains graphing activities for grades 9-12 science topics in biological and physical sciences as well as specific subjects like chemistry, physics, and biology.
