Description

These three human body systems data graphing activities will help your students understand how heart rate changes during exercise, how breathing rate and oxygen use increase with activity, and how food energy and activity level are connected while building strong graphing and data analysis skills. This bundle gives teachers an easy, NO PREP way to have students work with real-world style health and body systems datasets to explore Heart Rate & Exercise, Respiration & Oxygen Use, and Nutrition & Energy.

There are 3 Graphing Labs Included:

  1. Heart Rate & Exercise Investigation
  2. Respiration & Oxygen Use Investigation
  3. Nutrition & Energy Investigation

Students analyze real-world style human body systems datasets related to heart rate during different exercise stages, activity intensity and heart rate, breathing rate during exercise, activity and oxygen use, rest vs exercise oxygen comparison, calories in different foods, energy use over time, and the relationship between activity level and calories burned. They then create a variety of graph types from data tables before using their graphs to identify patterns, analyze trends, and explain how the body responds to physical activity and energy demands.

Each activity includes a complete answer key with the required graphs and is very easy to differentiate for different ability levels.

Students use provided real-world data tables to:

  • Create multiple types of graphs (line graphs, bar graphs, and scatter plots)
  • Identify patterns in heart rate, breathing rate, oxygen use, calories, and energy use
  • Compare how exercise intensity affects heart rate and respiration
  • Analyze how activity level changes oxygen use and calories burned
  • Explore how food energy connects to activity and body needs
  • Use evidence from graphs to answer discussion questions about human body systems

Each activity moves students from reading data → graphing data → interpreting patterns → explaining scientific processes.
