Description

This lesson package compares and contrasts Mass and Weight in a clear and concise manner. First it introduces students to the concepts of mass, weight and gravity. It then provides worked examples on how to calculate weight using the metric and imperial/standard systems. The lesson then compares mass vs. weight, discusses mass and weight in zero (or micro) gravity and ends with a look at how scales operate. Within the lesson there are many opportunities for students to check their understanding with practice questions. This allows you to determine whether your students are getting it or if the material needs further clarification.

In order, the lesson covers:

- Mass

- Weight

- Gravity

- Calculating Weight

- Metric and The Standard/Imperial system of measurement

- Mass vs. Weight

- Mass and Weight in Zero Gravity

- Scales

My Promise to You

I know every classroom is different. If you purchase a resource and feel it is not the right fit for your students, contact me and I’ll provide 2x the amount you paid in store credit toward another resource in my store, so you can find something that better supports your students.

Included in the lesson package is:

- The teacher version of the PowerPoint

- The student version of the PowerPoint

- 3 videos embedded into the PowerPoint

- Student lesson handout

Buyer Comments:

- "Videos in powerpoint keep students engaged."

- "I'm using it with fifth graders - I can easily modify the lesson and students sheets down since they are included as a power point and word doc. There is a lot of content here to use at all of the grade levels listed above."

The student version of the PowerPoint contains multiple blanks that need to be filled in throughout the lesson. These blanks are conveniently underlined and bolded on the teacher copy. I have found this to be the most effective means of keeping my students engaged and active without having them write everything out. This also leaves more time for discussion and activities.
