Description

These three energy transfer and heat graphing investigations help students understand how thermal energy moves through matter while building strong graphing and data analysis skills. This bundle gives teachers an easy, NO PREP way to have students work with real-world style datasets to explore Heating Curves, Heat Transfer, and Heating & Cooling Processes.

There are 3 Graphing Labs Included:

  1. Heat Transfer Mechanisms & Thermal Equilibrium
  2. Heating & Cooling Curves, Phase Change & Thermal Energy
  3. Thermal Energy, Heating Curves & Phase Change

My Promise to You

I know every classroom is different. If you purchase a resource and feel it is not the right fit for your students, contact me and I’ll provide 2x the amount you paid in store credit toward another resource in my store, so you can find something that better supports your students.

Students analyze temperature and energy datasets related to heating processes, cooling processes, and heat transfer mechanisms. They then create a variety of graph types from data tables before using their graphs to identify patterns, analyze temperature trends, and explain how thermal energy moves through matter.

Each activity includes a complete answer key with the required graphs if you need to differentiate for different ability levels.

How It Works

Students use provided real-world data tables to:

  • Create multiple types of graphs (line graphs, bar graphs, double line graphs, double bar graphs, and scatter plots)
  • Identify patterns in temperature changes during heating and cooling
  • Analyze how energy transfer affects temperature over time
  • Compare heating and cooling processes
  • Examine how different materials or conditions affect heat transfer
  • Investigate phase changes such as melting and boiling
  • Use evidence from graphs to answer discussion questions about thermal energy and heat transfer

Each activity moves students from:

reading data → graphing data → interpreting patterns → explaining energy transfer processes

This graphing bundle is also included inside my High School Science Graphing & Data Analysis Mega Bundle at a significant discount. The bundle contains graphing activities for grades 9-12 science topics in biological and physical sciences as well as specific subjects like chemistry, physics, and biology.
