Ecology Case Study "Why Does Rainfall Change Near Mountains"
This resource provides an engaging look at how mountains shape and determine rainfall and impact the water cycle. Students will explore how natural land formations help determine rainfall on both sides of a mountain.
Through this real-world case study, students will build scientific literacy and deepen their understanding of the water cycle as well as rainfall patterns around mountain ranges. They’ll examine what happens to moist air when it reaches a mountain range, why does rising air cool lead to precipitation?, the difference between the windward side and the leeward side of a mountain, and what a rain shadow is and how does it affects ecosystems on the leeward side of a mountain.
Your reading contains ~400-500 words plus 5 questions and their answers.
This resource is suitable for students in grades 7-10. Tackle literacy and science by having your students read and answer questions from a scientific article.
No prep, no formatting, no issues. Simply download, project, print (or upload to your class site) and you're all set.
Google Classroom and Distance Learning Ready
This resource will take your students between 30-45 minutes to complete and includes some open-ended questions. An answer key is also included for your reference.
