The Declaration of Independence | American Revolution Series | Grades 4, 5, 6
(1 rating)$5.00
Add to cartDeclaration of Independence part of the American Revolutionary War Series. This standards-aligned, two-day lesson guides students through a meaningful analysis of the Declaration of Independence using accessible language, primary sources, and high-interest activities. This social studies/ELA integrated resource helps students understand what the Declaration says, why it was written, and why it matters—all at a developmentally appropriate level.
Students examine the five sections of the Declaration of Independence, determine its purpose, analyze key vocabulary, and synthesize their learning by rewriting the document using modern “text lingo.” A virtual field trip to the National Archives brings history to life and strengthens students’ connection to primary sources.

I found this later into our unit to use as a supplement, but plan to use it all next year! Great layout of lessons with plans, map examples, and maps for students to fill out. I used the blank map with cut out pieces to send home with students for review, and they loved piecing together the names with locations. They also easily made flashcards with the vocabulary/pictures. I plan to use the entire unit next year as it covers the standards and is very student-friendly! The only thing I found difficult was very small font on some documents.
