Description

Quickly screen decoding, spelling patterns, and paragraph organization with this multi-sensory baseline screener bundle for reading planning & remediation.

Baseline Literacy Screening Bundle: Phonics, Spelling & Structured Writing Check in. Quickly monitor decoding, spelling patterns, and paragraph writing during the first weeks of school with this multi-sensory, neurodiversity-affirming baseline assessment bundle. Designed for early elementary diagnostics, structured literacy instruction, and upper elementary reading remediation.

These print and go packets offer an explicit, low-stress way to pinpoint your incoming students' literacy levels without overwhelm. This Back to School Literacy Screening Bundle combines two powerful, student-tested resources designed to evaluate foundational reading, spelling, and sentence-level writing skills.

Pairing a systematic Phonics Screener with the kinesthetic Handy Hand Framework (5W + 1H), gather actionable diagnostic data while your students share their summer adventures or goals for the upcoming school year.

Built by an educational therapist, this bundle reduces cognitive load and supports working memory, processing speed, visual-spatial organization, and executive function. It is a perfect fit for Science of Reading classrooms, Orton-Gillingham instruction, UFLI, Slingerland, Fundations, and structured literacy settings.

πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Perfect For:

  • Back-to-School Diagnostics: Establish clean baseline data for reading, spelling, and written expression in week one.
  • Specialized Instruction: Ideal for learning specialists, educational therapists, reading interventionists, special education teachers, and tutors.
  • Small-Group Tiers: Effortlessly sort students into flexible, data-driven reading and spelling groups.

πŸ“Š Grade-Level Targeting & Common Core Standards Alignment

This bundle is explicitly aligned with Kindergarten through 3rd Grade foundational benchmarks, tracking the transition from single-syllable short vowels to complex two-syllable vowel teams.

Reading: Foundational Skills (RF) Standards Met:

  • Phonics & Word Recognition (Single-Syllable): Know final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds. (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3.C)
  • Syllabication (Two-Syllable Transition): Use knowledge that every syllable must have a vowel sound to decode regularly spelled two-syllable words by breaking them into chunks. (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3.D / CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3.E)
  • Complex Vowel Teams: Know spelling-sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams and two-syllable words with long vowels. (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3.B / CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3.C)
  • Phonetic Spelling Application: Spell untaught words phonetically, drawing on phonemic awareness and spelling conventions to establish a clear baseline. (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.2.E / CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.2.D)

🧠 Well-suited for Older Struggling Learners (Grades 4-8+ Remediation)

While this bundle aligns beautifully with early elementary standards, it is uniquely engineered to serve as a high-utility intervention tool for older students.

  • Dignity-Preserving Design: The clean, sophisticated layout focuses on core phonological and structural skills without childish imagery or graphics.
  • Identifies Deep Phonics Gaps: Easily catch older students who rely on guessing strategies rather than orthographic mapping of single and two-syllable vowel patterns.
  • Reduces Executive Dysfunction: Provides older, neurodivergent students (ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia) with a permanent, repeatable framework to organize multi-paragraph writing and summaries.

✨ What’s Included in This Bundle:

1. Phonics Screeners & Vowel Pattern Practice Packet

  • Read & Match Worksheets: Evaluate decoding fluency, accuracy, and comprehension by connecting words directly to pictures.

  • Diagnostic Screening Pages: Fill-in-the-blank activities featuring immediate visual correction spaces.
  • Teacher Tracking & Progress Monitoring Sheets: Streamlined data collection pages for notes, baseline tracking, and future small-group placements.

2. Handy Hand 5W 1H Writing Graphic Organizer

  • Tactile 5W + 1H Prompting: Maps Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How directly onto a visual hand framework to scaffold summer writing samples or goal-setting.

  • Student Fill-In Organizers: Differentiated templates that allow students to plan responses using simple words, sketches, or complex sentences.
  • Bonus Materials: Interactive classroom scavenger hunt and character tie-ins from the Vowel Pattern Pals series.

🧩 Why This Bundle Works for Neurodiverse Learners (Dyslexia & ADHD Support):

  • Reduces Cognitive Load: The multisensory, sequential design bridges the gap between processing, spelling, and written expression.
  • Emphasizes Informative Errors: Designed to show you how a student thinks through decoding and spelling, making mistakes a highly valuable teaching tool.
  • Scaffolds Executive Functioning: Helps students manage attention challenges and language retrieval issues by breaking paragraph organization into concrete steps.
  • Fosters a Growth Mindset: Promotes self-correction and independent learning directly on the worksheets.

Meet the Seller

Structured literacy to keep learners curious.

Hi friends! I am a Bay-area-based Educational Therapist in private practice and an author-creator. Having worked in private and public schools, I love to support teachers, families, and educational teams as well as my learners. My students range from pre-K to freshman in high school, and I love every age and phase. Teaching literacy is my passion and vocation. Hoping to change the world one reader at a time! Everyone has a right to have access to being a reader and writer and have it open the doors of their curiosity and careers. I feel privileged to have the trust and partnership with families and teachers, as well as the relationship with my learners, to help them turn around their learning struggle into a more confident experience of success. Plus, I am on the parent's view of the educational journey with 2 wonderful teens of my own. I love to draw silly cute characters, try out watercolor, be in nature, travel with family, and care for my three rescue pups. Thanks for reading and considering my materials!
