The Me Duele story gives beginning Spanish students a comprehensible input lesson with printable text, two animated video versions, and follow-up activities.
Students follow a dad whose children keep getting hurt while their mom is at work. Use the story for guided reading and discussion, or as a sub plan for novice learners who can already read some Spanish independently.
REPEATED TARGET STRUCTURES
- Me duele
- Me rompí
- Tú deberías
- Estabas haciendo
These structures appear repeatedly in the story. Review them with your class and decide how much support students need before assigning independent work.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
- Printable PDF story
- Links to animated video versions with and without text
- Comprehension-question worksheet
- “Who Said It?” worksheet
- Story-retell worksheet
- Answer key
READ, WATCH, AND RETELL
The text video is just over five minutes long, with time for students to read. Pause it to discuss details or storyask. Use the illustration-only version for retelling, then follow up with the worksheets.
For novice-low and novice-mid learners, present the story with the support your class needs. With novice-high students, add details or create a parallel story. Higher-level learners can use the events for a past-tense retelling.
This Me Duele lesson combines a story, visual support, and comprehension tasks. For substitute use, select the materials your students can manage independently and leave directions for the reading and follow-up activities.

I used this resource with my Spanish 1 class- most of them are freshman-and from my point of view, just a few were engaged. The story has many words and verbs that they don't know, so they were confused. I would recommend it for Spanish 2- if you work in a public high school Title 1.
