Description

Phoneme Substitution Build and Clip Task Cards is one of 16 task card games. This set will have students practicing and strengthening their phonemic awareness skills by manipulating phonemes in words. Students will determine words using the pictures, build those words with letters, and then determine the new word, identify the sound that changes, and build the new word.

Two sizes are available in this pack:

  • Full-size pages if you do not have/use the Photo Keeper Boxes from Michaels/Amazon.
  • Standard task card size that fits in Recollection Photo Keeper Boxes.

This set includes:

  1. 75 small task cards and 75 full-size task cards that provide no support/fully independent. This set has 25 cards each for initial phoneme sound change, medial phoneme sound change, and ending sound change. Students will determine the words, what sound changes, and what letters are needed to correctly build the word(s).
  2. 75 small task cards and 75 full-size task cards that provide moderate support. This set has 25 cards each for initial phoneme sound change, medial phoneme sound change, and ending sound change. Students are given a guide to help them determine whether the initial (green Dot), medial (yellow dot), or ending (red dot) sound has changed. Students will determine what letters to use to correctly build the word(s).
  3. 75 task cards and 75 full-size task cards that provide full support. This set has 25 cards each for initial phoneme sound change, medial phoneme sound change, and ending sound change. This set has 25 cards each for initial phoneme sound change, medial phoneme sound change, and ending phoneme sound change. Students are given a guide to help them determine whether the initial (green dot), medial (yellow dot), or ending (red dot) sound has changed. Students are also given the correct spelling for each word.

Students will use magnetic and/or letter tiles to build words and clothespins to mark what phoneme/sound has changed in the words, making this a fun, hands-on, and simple way for students to practice phonemic awareness skills, as well as helping young learners develop one-to-one correspondence and fine motor skills! No magnetic letters or letter tiles, no problem! Students can simply use dry erase markers.

Another added bonus - the 3 different sets allow for differentiation! Perfect for small group work, centers, morning tubs, or an early finisher activity.

Teacher reviews

“This is a tricky skill and my students need to be able to continually practice. This was a great resource to put into my independent task boxes for students to be able to work on skills, but have some independence.”
Ms. L.
“Just what I was looking for to have my students practice in small groups.”
Lexa J.
