Description

This student-led activity covers NGSS MS-PS2-2 - Apply Newton’s Third Law to design a solution to a problem involving the motion of two colliding objects.

Examples of practical problems could include the impact of collisions between two cars, between a car and stationary objects, and between a meteor and a space vehicle.

✅ Hands-on student-led lab exploring Newton’s Second Law

✅ Students design 2 experiments testing force, mass, and acceleration

✅ Includes worksheet in Word, PDF, and Google Docs formats

✅ Aligned to NGSS MS-PS2-2 with real-world applications

Using the information provided in the activity regarding Newton's Second Law, students are tasked with creating two lab experiments that test Newton's Second Law in two different scenarios. The lab is broken down into easy-to-manage sections and uses language appropriate for the grade level.

No previous knowledge of Newton's Second Law is required to complete this activity as everything is explained in a way that is easy to understand.

This student-led lab can be found within my Newton's Laws of Motion Middle School Unit Bundle.

Newton’s Second Law of Motion

Newton’s second law states that the acceleration of an object depends upon the net force (unbalanced force) acting up an object as well as the mass of the object.

The lab challenges students to demonstrate their understanding of how the motion of an object can change if either the net force or the mass of the object is changed.

Your resource includes a Word, PDF, and Google Docs version of the worksheet.
