Science Posters- The Periodic Table-Brown Corduroy Design
$5.00 (1)
Turn your students into science detectives with this NO PREP, engaging, real-world investigation focused on immune system breakdown and whole-body health disruption. In this case file activity, students analyze laboratory reports, examine white blood cell counts, track stress hormone patterns, evaluate inflammation markers, rank possible causes, and build a scientific case to solve the mystery of why patients are experiencing frequent infections, slow recovery, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and chronic inflammation.
Instead of passively reading about immunity and infection, students actively investigate, analyze patterns, and reason through the evidence to uncover how immune dysfunction spreads across multiple body systems. This activity makes a complex biology topic interactive, engaging, and easy to understand while strengthening critical thinking and literacy skills.
✅ NO PREP, no formatting, no issues.
Simply download and go. Includes all instructions, answer key, rubric, and background reading students need to solve the case. This mystery is included inside my Human Body Systems & Health Mystery Activity Bundle.
10-Part Activity Breakdown
Part 1 – Mission Briefing:
Students are introduced to Case File #927 involving patients with repeated infections, prolonged illness, abnormal white blood cell counts, and persistent inflammation.
Part 2 – Background Reading:
Students build foundational knowledge about the immune system, white blood cells, antibodies, lymph nodes, inflammation, and immune regulation.
Part 3 – Evidence Log:
Students examine 10 detailed evidence cards related to low white blood cell counts, frequent infections, slow recovery time, elevated cortisol levels, poor sleep, nutrient deficiencies, chronic inflammation markers, enlarged lymph nodes, delayed wound healing, and reduced antibody response.
Part 4 – Suspect Ranking:
Students rank possible causes of immune breakdown (chronic stress, poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, underproduction of white blood cells, persistent inflammation) and justify their reasoning using scientific evidence.
Part 5 – Pathway Tracking:
Students trace how immune disruption spreads from trigger → immune signaling change → cellular impact → organ stress → whole-body effects.
Part 6 – Impact Analysis:
Students analyze how immune dysfunction affects organs (lungs, skin, digestive system), cells (pathogen detection and signaling), and overall health.
Part 7 – The Big Question:
Students explain how immune imbalance developed into a serious body-wide health problem using case evidence.
Part 8 – CER Writing:
Students construct a scientific argument using Claim–Evidence–Reasoning.
Part 9 – Solutions & Action Plan:
Students propose personal, community, and medical strategies to restore immune balance.
Part 10 – Reflection:
Students reflect on how stress, sleep, and nutrition influence immune health.
