The Musculoskeletal System Injury Mystery – Detective SUB PLAN | Bones, Tendons
$3.97 $2.97
Add to cartTurn your students into science detectives with this NO PREP, engaging, real-world investigation focused on musculoskeletal system injuries and movement breakdown. In this case file activity, students analyze strength test data, examine range-of-motion measurements, investigate posture assessments, track injury pathways, rank possible causes, and build a scientific case to solve the mystery of why patients are experiencing joint pain, muscle weakness, stiffness, reduced mobility, and balance problems.
Instead of passively reading about muscles and bones, students actively investigate, analyze patterns, and reason through the evidence to uncover how injury spreads through the musculoskeletal system and affects the entire body. It makes a complex human body systems topic interactive, engaging, and easy to understand.
✅ NO PREP, no formatting, no issues.
Simply download and go. Includes all instructions, answer key, rubric, and background reading students need to solve the case.
10-Part Activity Breakdown
Part 1 – Mission Briefing:
Students are introduced to the case involving patients experiencing joint pain, muscle weakness, stiffness, poor posture, and reduced movement efficiency.
Part 2 – Background Reading:
Students build foundational knowledge about the musculoskeletal system, including muscles, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, posture, and movement coordination.
Part 3 – Evidence Log:
Students examine 10 detailed evidence cards related to muscle weakness, joint inflammation, reduced range of motion, pain during movement, muscle imbalance, poor posture, delayed recovery, reduced bone support, altered movement patterns, and repeated stress exposure.
Part 4 – Suspect Ranking:
Students rank possible causes of the injury (muscle overuse, joint inflammation, poor posture, muscle imbalance, inadequate recovery) and justify their reasoning using scientific evidence.
Part 5 – Pathway Tracking:
Students trace how injury develops from source → tissue damage → altered movement → whole-body impact.
Part 6 – Impact Analysis:
Students analyze how injury affects muscles, joints, bones, cells, posture, balance, and daily function.
Part 7 – The Big Question:
Students explain how a localized movement problem developed into a system-wide health issue.
Part 8 – CER Writing:
Students construct a scientific argument using Claim–Evidence–Reasoning.
Part 9 – Solutions & Action Plan:
Students propose personal, community, and medical strategies to support recovery and prevent future injury.
Part 10 – Reflection:
Students reflect on how movement habits and recovery affect long-term musculoskeletal health.
