The Nutrition & Diet Health Mystery – Detective SUB PLAN | Vitamins, Minerals
$3.97 $2.97
Add to cartTurn your students into science detectives with this NO PREP, engaging, real-world investigation focused on nutrition, diet, and whole-body health balance. In this case file activity, students analyze medical data, examine laboratory test results, track nutrient pathways, rank possible causes, and build a scientific case to solve the mystery of why patients are experiencing fatigue, frequent illness, slow wound healing, muscle weakness, blood sugar instability, and long-term organ stress.
Instead of passively reading about balanced diets and nutrient deficiencies, students actively investigate, analyze patterns, and reason through the evidence to uncover how poor dietary choices disrupt cellular function and spread across multiple body systems. It makes a complex health topic interactive, engaging, and easy to understand.
✅ NO PREP, no formatting, no issues.
Simply download and go. Includes all instructions, answer key, rubric, and background reading students need to solve the case.
10-Part Activity Breakdown
Part 1 – Mission Briefing:
Students are introduced to Case File #915 involving patients experiencing fatigue, frequent illness, muscle weakness, unstable energy, and signs of nutrient imbalance.
Part 2 – Background Reading:
Students build foundational knowledge about balanced nutrition, macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration, and how nutrients support cellular function.
Part 3 – Evidence Log:
Students examine 10 detailed evidence cards related to iron deficiency, high sugar intake, low fruit and vegetable consumption, inadequate protein, fatigue, slow wound healing, increased illness, low calcium intake, irregular eating patterns, and dehydration.
Part 4 – Suspect Ranking:
Students rank possible causes of imbalance (excess processed foods, low fruit and vegetable intake, insufficient protein, dehydration, irregular eating patterns) and justify their reasoning using scientific evidence.
Part 5 – Pathway Tracking:
Students trace how nutrition imbalance spreads from food intake → nutrient availability → cellular function → organ impact → whole-body health.
Part 6 – Impact Analysis:
Students analyze how poor nutrition affects organs (brain, muscles, immune system), cells (energy production), and overall health.
Part 7 – The Big Question:
Students explain how poor nutrition developed into a serious body-wide health issue.
Part 8 – CER Writing:
Students construct a scientific argument using Claim–Evidence–Reasoning.
Part 9 – Solutions & Action Plan:
Students propose personal, school/community, and medical strategies to restore healthy balance.
Part 10 – Reflection:
Students reflect on how nutrition choices influence long-term health.
