Get BundleIntroduce students to quadratic functions and the relationship between their equations and graphs with these guided notes and practice activities. Great for beginning a unit on quadratic functions as part of an Algebra I class, or for reviewing concepts before moving to more advanced content in higher-level classes (Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus). Save 15% vs. buying these resources individually!
Parts of a Parabola: Give your students their first look at a quadratic function and help them identify and understand key features of their graphs with this fill-in guided notes activity. Concepts are demonstrated with a focus on the relationships between elements and how students can use parts of one to find another. Features shown and vocabulary terms defined include vertex, axis of symmetry, minimum/maximum, y-intercept/starting value, domain, range, x-intercepts/roots/zeros, as well as the a- and c-values from the equation. Full key included as well as a bonus classroom poster to keep concepts front of mind for students. This resource now includes a 10-page slide deck which walks your students step-by-step through the lesson which means there's no prep for you!
Exploring Quadratics Activity: Start with the parent function of y = x², then add and change elements one by one and have students record what they notice from the graph, including the vertex, maximum/minimum, axis of symmetry, direction of opening, x-intercepts/roots/zeros, y-intercept, domain and range, as well as other points belonging to the function shown. The first two pages can serve as guided notes during whole-group or small-group instruction, then continue the direct instruction with two more pages of investigation, or use the last two pages as an independent formative assessment or ticket out the door to gauge understanding. Designed to ignite robust classroom discussions, this activity includes eight different graphs/equations for your students to investigate for a total of four pages. Aligns with Common Core State Math Standards HSF-IF.A.1, HSF-IF.A.2, HSF-IF.B.4, HSF-IF.C.7a, HSF-IF.C.7c and HSF-BF.B.3. Full key included.
